Governor Janet Mills and Senator Angus King came together to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Social Security at the Maine State House.
Both Mills and King have been long time supporters of the program.
CBS 13 reports that in Maine, almost 370,000 residents rely on the benefits; this includes 20,000 children.
One in every four Maine households rely on the benefits, and more than 95% of Mainers over the age of 65 receive them.
Mills and King have criticized proposed cuts spearheaded by President Trump and Elon Musk.
