Police evacuate Maine Mall in South Portland after shooting

The Maine Mall in South Portland was evacuated Wednesday afternoon after a shooting.

South Portland police confirmed around 4:30 p.m. they were searching the mall for a person suspected of shooting someone else inside the mall.

They said a preliminary investigation suggests the shooting was an isolated incident.

The victim was taken to Maine Medical Center, but their condition was not immediately known.

The public is being urged to stay away from the mall, though police said they don’t believe there’s any threat to the public.

The suspect was described as a young black male who was wearing a black hoodie with a gray stripe on the back and carrying a backpack.

South Portland Police said the suspect was seen leaving the mall via the food court exit.
