Most of the southern half of Maine is now under “Very High Fire Danger”, which is a step up from the level of previous days, and one notch below the maximum “extreme” level.

The Maine Forest Service says it’s still dealing with numerous wildfires around the state and has firefighters and equipment stationed at some extended attack fires.
It’s not known if possible rain will provide relief to the current conditions.
The Forest Service has suspended the issuing of open burn permits, as have many local towns in Maine.
The agency is using some helicopters to assist in firefighting efforts and says the Maine Army National Guard Aviation resources are also available to assist.
