An Arrest is Made in Connection to a House Fire in Cornish

An Arrest is Made in Connection to a House Fire in Cornish

(Maine Fire Marshall's Office)

The Maine Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating what they’re calling a suspicious fire in Cornish this past Monday.

According to a statement, the Cornish Fire Department responded to a two-story home on Old Pine Road at around 10:47 PM.

The one person inside the home at the time managed to safely escape without injuries.

After determining the cause of the fire to be suspicious, investigations into the fire led to officials finding a surveillance video (screenshot above) of three unidentified males near the building when the fire started.

Investigators did contact all three and determined they’re not suspects in the fire.

However, on Saturday police did arrest 18-year-old Pather Joyce of Cornish and charged him with one count of Arson and another count for Failing to Control or Report a Dangerous Fire.

So far in the investigation Joyce appears to have acted alone and is currently being held at the York County Jail on $50,000 cash bail.
